Follow-up, known case of liver cirrhosis.
Patient Data
Shear wave elastography shows a velocity of more than 2 m/s (> 11.9 kPa) which indicates liver cirrhosis.
The liver appears coarse and heterogeneous in echotexture.
Portal vein is enlarged measuring about 1.6 cm.
Abdominal free fluid is noted in the right iliac fossa and peri splenic which indicated ascites.
The spleen is enlarged measuring about 18.2 cm in maximal diameter.
Case Discussion
Shear wave elastography is an imaging technique that quantifies tissue stiffness by measuring the speed of shear waves in tissue, if the velocity at the liver is more than 1.99 m/s this indicates cirrhosis.
Other features of liver cirrhosis are demonstrated in this patient such as splenomegaly, ascites, portal vein enlargement and coarse appearance of the liver.
