Clagett thoracotomy

Case contributed by A.Prof Frank Gaillard

Case Discussion

Chest x-ray in an elderly patient demonstrates a chest wall defect on the right lower lateral aspect of the chest. A tracheostomy is in situ.

CT confirms a cavity filled with air and gauze packing. No pneumothorax or pleural collection are present. Features are those of a Clagett thoracotomy for treatment of a prior empyema.
