Clavicle fracture - pediatric

Case contributed by Jeremy Jones
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Direct fall onto shoulder while playing football.

Patient Data

Age: 15 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Middle-third clavicle fracture just proximal to the coracoclavicular ligament insertion. Marked caudal displacement of the distal fragment.

Case Discussion

The clavicle fracture is just proximal to the coracoclavicular ligament and the coracoclavicular distance is therefore normal confirming that the ligament is intact.

In skeletally immature children and young people, there is rarely associated injury of the acromioclavicular or coracoclavicular ligaments.
