Presentation
Fall from a climbing wall. Tender medial aspect of the elbow.
Patient Data
The capitellum, radial head, internal epicondyle, trochlear, olecranon and external epicondyle have al started to ossify and there has been fusion of the majority.
There is a lucency projected across the waist of the internal epicondyle.
Given the appearances, and the tenderness at the medial portion of the elbow, the child was put in plaster and the appearances were treated as a fracture.
The lucency projected across the waist of the internal epicondyle is unchanged 4 weeks later.
6 weeks after the initial injury, the appearances of the internal epicondyle is unchanged. Features here are of a cleft epicondyle.
Case Discussion
The internal epicondyle has a lucency projected across its waist. It is well corticated and there is no periosteal reaction 4 or 6 weeks later. This is not a fracture, and simply a normal variant.
