Presentation

Notable cleft palate with intellectual disability and muffled speech.

Patient Data

Age: 6 years
Gender: Male

Complete left maxillary paramedian bony defect, measuring about 1.5 x 1.1 cm in maximum axial cross sections , The bony defect shows slightly everted edges. 

  • mucosal soft tissue lining are seen creeping over the bone defect with oro-antral fistula anteriorly and soft tissue densities sealing the posterior defect
  • associated left cleft lip defect
  • deviation of the bony nasal septum to the left side, union of the inferior aspect with the intact anterior aspect of the right hard palate 
  • bulbous deformity of the soft palate
  • slight prominence of the left inferior nasal turbinate with mild encroachment on the hard palate bony defect 
  • chonchae bullosae especially more on the right
  • enlarged adenoid encroaching upon the nasopharynx
