Closed lip schizencephaly

Incidental finding in an old patient which presented with headache.

Patient Data

Age: 72
Gender: Male

Incidental finding on non-contrast CT which done for headache work up;  right parietal parenchymal cleft lined by grey matter and extending from the cortical surface to the lateral ventricle.

Case Discussion

Futures compatible with schizencephaly
Schizencephaly can sometimes be bilateral, and is divided into two morphological types :

  • open lip : the cleft walls are separated and filled with CSF
  • closed lip : the cleft walls are in apposition.
