Closed loop small bowel obstruction

Presentation

Abdominal pain for 3 days. History of appendicectomy three months back.

Patient Data

Age: 15 years
Gender: Female

Small bowel loops are dilated with multiple air-fluid levels in their lumen. Abrupt cut-off of the small intestine is seen in the region of the mid ileum. The distal small bowel and the large bowel are unremarkable.

No free intra-peritoneal air is noted.

Case Discussion

Current CT findings are of small bowel obstruction which was confirmed after surgery as closed loop obstruction due to adhesions and treated accordingly.

No collection/abscess formation was found during surgery.

The patient is well now with normal bowel habits.
