Closed loop small bowel obstruction

Presentation

Abdominal pain, distension and vomiting of one day duration.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Female

There is marked dilatation of fluid filled small bowel segment in the pelvis with mural thickening which appear radially oriented (U) shaped with marked congestion of the mesenteric vessels which appear to beak towards a focus of torsion. There is fluid collection in the pelvis and perihepatic space which appear slightly hyperdense .appearances are radiologically consistent with closed loop obstruction of short small bowel segment with signs of mesenteric venous congestion and intestinal ischemia.
