Presentation

Coccygeal pain after falling.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Female

Fracture of the first coccygeal body. The fracture traverses the first coccygeal segment vertically with focal anteroposterior bulges and edema signal adjacent to fracture site. Peri-ossoeus soft tissue edema.

The fracture appears clearly on sagittal CT bone window images with mild anterior bone displacement.

Calcified uterine fibroid.

Case Discussion

Coccygeal fractures in younger adults tend to be after high-energy trauma. In elderly patients, these can represent insufficiency-type fractures.

Most coccygeal fractures have a transverse orientation. Displacement of the fracture fragment is variable.
