Presentation

Non-specific abdominal pain. No medical or surgical history.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Male

Two branches of celiac axis arteries (splenic and right hepatic arteries) and the superior mesenteric artery have a common origin from the abdominal aorta as a single trunk giving celiacomesenteric trunk. The third celiac artery branch (left gastric artery) seen arising directly from the abdominal aorta. This pattern classified as type II celiacomesenteric trunk according to Morita et al classification . The left hepatic artery is noted arising from the splenic artery.

Normal opacification of abdominal aorta without dissection or aneurysmal dilatation.

No evidence of significant stenosis.

Case Discussion

When celiac and superior mesenteric arteries have a single origin from abdominal aorta , the condition called celiaco-mesenteric trunk .Identification of this vascular normal variant is important for vascular intervention and surgical management.

This variant occurs in 1-1.5 % of populations.
