Coin in stomach

Case contributed by Dr Aditya Shetty

Patient Data

Age: 3
Gender: Male

Well defined rounded radioopaque(metallic) density is noted in the midline at the level of L1 vertebral body.

Case Discussion

This is a case of a foreign body in the abdomen.

Given the history and immediate urgency with which this x-ray was taken this foreign body is a coin in the stomach.

Other foreign bodies that children tend to accidentally swallow are batteries, small keys and safety pins.

Adult supervision is a must.
