Three weeks of bloody diarrhoea.

Patient Data

Age: 30
Gender: Female

Impression of a featureless gas pattern within the transverse colon extending distally, as well as thumb printing pattern, indicating mucosal edema.

Gross diffuse bowel wall thickening with mucosal hyperaemia and a target type appearance to the colon extends from the rectum to the proximal ascending colon with relative sparing of the caecum. There is associated pericolic fat stranding and marked vascular engorgement of the omental and mesenteric vasculature.

Case Discussion

Patient proceeded to a subtotal colectomy. 

Histology: Chronic inflammatory bowel disease of indeterminate type with marked activity; no dysplastic features seen.
