Age: 50
Gender: Female
mri

7 millimeter lesion seen in the third ventricle isointense on T1 weighting, low intensity on T2 weighting. Adjacent enhancement of the septal veins. Dilatation of the lateral ventricles bilaterally. Minimal transependymal edema detected. Left frontal lobe white matter increased foci of increased signal.No diffusion restriction detected.

Case Discussion

The patient went on to have a resection. 

Histology

MICROSCOPIC DESCRIPTION: The sections show fragments of amorphous eosinophilic material consistent with cyst contents. A collagenous membrane covered by epithelium which is distorted by diathermy artefact is also included. The overall features are consistent with the wall and contents of a colloid cyst. No evidence of tumor is seen.

DIAGNOSIS: Brain lesion: Features consistent with contents and wall of colloid cyst.
