Multiplanar imaging from a NECT of the brain demonstrates a round hyperdense mass arising from the third ventricle. No evidence of hydrocephalus.
Case Discussion
A colloid cyst is a rare benign lesion arising within the third ventricle accounting for 0.5-1% of primary brain tumors. Typically, colloid cysts are clinically silent, but when symptomatic patients most often present with chronic headaches. Although a colloid cyst is histologically benign, it can cause obstructive hydrocephalus, herniation, and sudden death.
