Presentation
Headache for investigation.
Patient Data
Mass measuring up to 2 cm at the foramen of Monroe which is T1 isointense, T2 hyperintense with no discernable contrast enhancement. Obstructive hydrocephalus at this level with a small amount of periventricular FLAIR hyperintensity likely representing transependymal edema.
Case Discussion
The patient went to have a resection of the mass.
Histopathology
MACROSCOPIC DESCRIPTION: A piece of tan tissue 10x8x3mm. Bisected.
MICROSCOPIC DESCRIPTION: Sections show the wall and lining of a cyst. The lining is composed of simple ciliated cuboidal epithelium in which no atypical features are seen. The wall is composed of loosely compacted collagen. The features are of a colloid cyst. No evidence of tumor is seen.
Although colloid cysts are most commonly hyperintense on T1 and low signal on T2 the appearance on MRI is variable.
