Presentation

Headaches.

Patient Data

Age: 65 years
Gender: Male

Hyperdense lesion in the roof of the anterior third ventricle with associated hydrocephalus is consistent with a colloid cyst.

Within the third ventricle is a lesion with heterogeneous T2 and high T1 signal consistent with a colloid cyst. It is associated with hydrocephalus and transependymal edema. 

 

Case Discussion

The patient went on to have surgery.

Histology

MICROSCOPIC DESCRIPTION: The specimen consists predominantly of contents of a colloid cyst. Small segments of cyst wall and lining are included. The lining consists of a layer of ciliated cuboidal epithelial cells. The wall consists of lamellated collagen. There is no evidence of tumor.

FINAL DIAGNOSIS: Colloid cyst of the third ventricle.
