Colloid cyst of the third ventricle

Presentation

Chronic headache.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Female

A dense fluid well-defined homogenous cyst with axial width up to 12 x 10 mm in anterior superior margin of the third ventricle in the midline is seen which caused mild lateral cerebral ventricles dilation due to impression on both sides of the interventricular foramen of Monro.

Case Discussion

The case illustrates the non-contrast MDCT features of the colloid cyst of the third ventricle. The cyst is usually asymptomatic and is incidentally found but can progressively enlarge and lead to hydrocephaly and headache. The MDCT feature is usually diagnostic. The colloid cysts with a size >3 cm are called giant colloid cysts and surgical resection can be recommended 1.
