Irregular stricture with shouldering at the distal portion of the descending colon and proximal sigmoid colon is highly suggestive of malignant tumoral infiltration.
Case Discussion
Further colonoscopy evaluation in this patient shows an infiltrative mass at the distal portion of the descending colon and proximal of the sigmoid, and tissue exam confirms colon adenocarcinoma.
The apple core sign in the barium study of the colon is most frequently associated with constriction of the colon's lumen by a stenosing annular colorectal carcinoma.
