Colon diverticulosis (barium study)

Presentation

Work up for long standing constipation.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Female
Fluoroscopy

Dolichocolon is present accompanied by sigmoid redundancy and transverse colon ptosis.

No apparent tumoral strictures or pathological filling defects are evident in the colorectal.

Multiple small outpouchings are observed, particularly at the left hemicolon, inferring diverticulosis.

Case Discussion

Diverticulosis is very common and is typically found in older individuals. The vast majority are asymptomatic; however, some patients may show intermittent left sided abdominal pain and frequent constipation.
