Patient has performed fleet enema routinely as a treatment for constipation. She was admitted to the emergency department with acute abdomen.

Extensive pneumoperitoneum associated with free fecal content in the abdominal cavity. Note also diffuse thickening of the colonic wall.

Fecal peritonitis results from the presence of feces in the peritoneal cavity and is a serious and potentially fatal event.
