Presentation

Two days of increasing abdominal pain.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Female
ct

There is a 6 cm length of proximal sigmoid colon with a thickened wall and multiple diverticula with extensive surrounding peri-mesenteric fat stranding.

Localized free intra-abdominal air next to the inflamed proximal sigmoid loop.

No obvious intra-abdominal collections.

Scattered uncomplicated small diverticula in the descending and sigmoid colons.

Gall bladder is not seen.

Small cortical cyst measuring about 10 mm along with left kidney lower pole.

Case Discussion

Localized proximal sigmoid colonic diverticulitis with associated micro perforation (free gas within the sigmoid mesentery). No pericolonic collection.
