Left lower abdominal pain.
Patient Data
Extensive colonic diverticulosis most numerous in the transverse and sigmoid colon with thickening and enhancement of the sigmoid and left colonic wall up to splenic flexure. Some of the distal descending colonic diverticula show thickened enhanced wall with intramural abscess formation, adjacent pericolic fat stranding and thickening with the enhancement of the peritoneal reflections. No adjacent extra-luminal gas was seen.
A small simple left renal cyst is noted.

Colonic diverticulitis is a complication of colonic diverticulosis, and one of the presentations of diverticular disease. Uncomplicated diverticulosis is mostly asymptomatic whereas acute diverticulitis is a potentially life-threatening illness.
