Colonic diverticulosis

Case contributed by Dr. Adler Puerta

Presentation

Left sided abdominal pain and constipation.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Female
Barium

Double contrast barium enema

Multiple views show numerous rounded lesions along the sigmoid colon, descending and distal third of the transverse colon which fill with barium contrast, featuring sharply defined edges, and of variable size.

Case Discussion

Findings are consistent with colonic diverticula.

Colonic polyps would be included in the differential diagnosis. In contrast, these would manifest as filling defects outlined by the intraluminal barium contrast.
