Colonic interposition of the oesophagus

Patient presents with abdominal pain and fever.

Patient Data

Age: 45
Gender: Female

Unusual finding of contrast filled colon (left) anastomosed between the upper oesophagus and stomach via the diaphragmatic hiatus - diaphragm intact.

Case Discussion

This procedure is now rarely performed (gastric pull up - Ivor Lewis procedure is preferred) usually for malignancy or corrosive ingestion.
