Comminuted midshaft fractures of the right clavicle, with cephalic angulation. The acromioclavicular joint and the coracoclavicular distance are normal in appearance. Diffuse right shoulder soft tissue swelling. No other associated traumatic fractures.
Case Discussion
Clavicle fractures are common in the daily routine of emergency departments. When reporting them, we should not forget to describe:
- location of the fracture along the shaft
- angulation and fracture end displacement (including direction)
- comminution
- associated findings and relevant negatives
- acromioclavicular joint and sternoclavicular joint alignment
- coracoclavicular distance
- glenohumeral joint
- associated traumatic injuries
- rib fractures
- vertebral fractures
- scapular fractures (floating shoulder)
- pneumothorax
