Presentation
Screw-plate fixation across tibia fracture about 5 weeks before the presentation. Referred with a clinical diagnosis of the common peroneal neuropathy.
Patient Data
The common peroneal nerve was traced from its origin to its division. The nerve shows hypoechogenicity and edema involving about 45 mm of its length. It starts just below the knee joint line level and extends up to the fibular neck level. The nerve continuity is maintained. There is no perineural lesion or collection. The nerve is away from the fracture site/ implant site. The tibial nerve and proximal division of the common peroneal nerves were normal.
Case Discussion
A female patient had tibia fracture fixation 5 weeks prior to the presentation. She developed foot drop and was referred for a common peroneal nerve ultrasound evaluation. The ultrasound shows common peroneal nerve edema without nerve discontinuity or perineural mass lesion.
