Complete rupture of the ring finger extensor digitorum communis central slip

Right-hand Index finger inability of extension secondary to recent trauma.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years

There is a classic ring finger boutonnière deformity as flexion of the PIP joint and extension of the DIP joint.

Complete disruption of the ring finger common extensor tendon central slip at its insertion on the base of the middle phalanx is present causing to the classic boutonnière deformity of the ring finger. Subcutaneous edematous changes also are seen along the course of the ring finger. 

Case Discussion

The recent patient referred to us with the history of right-hand ring finger pain and flexion deformity after recent trauma from 18 hours ago. After the initial assessment, hand MRI was done and revealed an acute complete tear of the ring finger extensor digitorum communis central slip.
