Complicated jejunal diverticulitis

Presentation

Acute pain in the epigastric region for 3 days and fever.

Patient Data

Age: 70 years
Gender: Male

In the jejunum, multiple diverticula are determined. Solitary inflamed diverticulum in the epigastric region with an indistinct contour and a wall defect. There is an accumulation of free gas in the abdominal cavity.  Small volume of pelvic free fluid. Absent right kidney. Left kidney with cysts of varying densities. 

pathology

The first photo shows a rounded formation along the loop of the small intestine (diverticulum). In the second photo, the surgeon touches the perforation area covered with fibrin with tweezers.

Case Discussion

Diverticulitis of the small intestine is a less common lesion than diverticulitis of the large intestine, but can be encountered in everyday practice and mimic various acute abdominal conditions.
