Dysphagia to solid and fluid. History of previous gastric surgery

Age: 35 years old
Gender: Male
Modality: Barium

Gastric fundal defect which is consistent with Nissen fundoplication. Distal esophageal stricture and mild proximal esophageal dilatation.

Fundoplication measures >2 cm

Case Discussion

Nissen fundoplication is an antireflux surgery used for resistant cases of gastroesophageal reflux disease. Long and tight fundoplication is a complication of Nissen operation and the cause for patient's achalasia-like symptoms. Normal fundoplication measures no more than 2 cm in length.
