Concha bullosa sinusitis

Case contributed by Dr Heba Mohamed

Left nasal cavity obstruction

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Female

Abnormal fluid within aerated left middle concha. The finding suggests either middle concha sinusitis or mucocele.

Case Discussion

Middle concha is a bone process situated inferior and medial to the ethmoid air cells. When pneumatised, it is a called concha bullosa. Pneumatisation may happen anteriorly and posteriorly. When anterior, it becomes more liable to mucocele. Pneumatised middle concha is liable to the same inflammatory disorders that affect the paranasal sinuses.
