Presentation

Developmental delay and physical disability.

Patient Data

Age: 10 years
Gender: Male

Mild diffuse cerebral atrophy.

Multiple tiny nodular calcifications in the bilateral cerebral hemisphere, predominantly involving the basal ganglia, periventricular, and centrum semiovale regions.

Multifocal patchy confluent hypodensities in the subcortical and deep white matter regions of the bilateral frontal, parietal, temporal, and occipital lobes.

Small extra axial hypodense cystic lesion overlying the right anterior temporal lobe, likely arachnoid cyst.

Case Discussion

Taking the patient, their background, and prevalence of intrauterine infections in a developing country such as India into context, the above findings are likely to represent congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection sequelae (TORCH infection).
