Congenital diaphragmatic hernia

Presentation

Referred to our institution at day 1 of life with known left sided congenital diaphragmatic hernia.

Patient Data

Age: Newborn
Gender: Female
x-ray

ET tube in situ with the tip in the right main bronchus and asociated right upper lobe collapse. Nasoenteric tube is in situ with tip projected over the stomach, which appears to lie in the left upper quadrant. Herniation of bowel loops into the left thoracic cavity with associated mediastinal shift to the right consistent with Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH).

Case Discussion

Referring team was informed about the malpositioned ET tube. Patient subsequently had surgery and is doing well.
