Patient Data
Multiple air-filled loops are seen within the left hemithorax with indistinct ipsilateral hemidiaphragm and paucity of bowel gas in the abdomen. There is ipsilateral lung hypoplasia with mediastinal shift to the right. The right lung shows normal appearance.
Case Discussion
Case of congenital diaphragmatic hernia.
Late presentation of congenital diaphragmatic hernia is rare, and usually, have a better outcome than in the neonatal period. The patient may be asymptomatic or presents a variety of respiratory and GI symptoms. The misdiagnosis is usually due to a nonspecific presentation.
A congenital diaphragmatic hernia may mimic:
- lower lobe pneumonia
- diaphragmatic eventration
- pneumothorax
- congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation
