Congenital diaphragmatic hernia with patent ductus arteriosus

Presentation

One-day-old boy presented with respiratory distress.

Patient Data

Age: Neonate
Gender: Male

Left large Bochdalek type diaphragmatic hernia with herniation of bowel loops along with the mesentery to left hemithorax.

The superior mesenteric artery also goes to the left hemithorax.
The spleen is also not seen in its location however similar texture structure is seen in the medial aspect of the left upper hemithorax likely herniated spleen.
The heart is shifted towards the right side.
Left lung hypoplasia with the collapse of the remaining part.

Large Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) is noted measuring 0.7 cm in diameter.
Dilated pulmonary trunk measuring 1 cm compared to 0.6.5 cm diameter of ascending aorta at the same level.

Case Discussion

The case presents a synchronous occurrence of congenital diaphragmatic hernia and patent ductus arteriosus.
