Presentation

Left congenital facial palsy.

Patient Data

Age: 3 years
Gender: Female

MRI petrous bone

Modality: MRI

The left facial nerve (VII) could not be seen in either the cisternal or canalicular portions of its course. Normal calibre and intensity of the cranial nerve VIII bilaterally and the right cranial nerve VII.

Case Discussion

Congenital facial nerve paralysis is rare and can be unilateral or bilateral. The congenital type is due to deficient facial nerve as in this case.
