Presentation

Asymptomatic 2nd gravida female for a 3rd-trimester scan. 1st and 2nd-trimester ultrasound studies were normal.

There is a single live fetus with growth corresponding to the gestational age. There is an anechoic, avascular lesion in the liver, measuring about 14 x 10 x 9 mm. The fetal gall bladder is separated from the lesion. The rest of the fetal liver shows normal echopattern. There was no lesion in the fetal spleen/ kidneys.

There is a thin-walled, anechoic, unilocular, avascular cyst in the anterior segment of the right lobe of the liver; measuring about 13 x 12 x 10 mm. The rest of the liver shows normal echopattern. The gall bladder is normal. There is no other abnormality in the abdomen.

Case Discussion

The case shows a congenital hepatic cyst during prenatal and postnatal ultrasound scans. The interval between the prenatal and postnatal scan is about 5 weeks. There is no significant interval change in cyst size. The neonate is asymptomatic.
