Congenital pulmonary airways malformation

Presentation

Neonate with respiratory distress and abnormal chest x ray.

Patient Data

Age: 2 days old
Gender: Female

The upper lobe of the left lung is occupied by multiple large size cysts causing relaxation collapse of the lower lobe and rightward mild mediastinal shift. The diaphragm is intact.

Diagnosis: congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation CCAM type I

Case Discussion

CCAM or CPAM are spectrum of cystic diseases involving the pulmonary airways. Other differential consideration of neonatal cystic pulmonary lesion includes congenital diaphragmatic hernia, congenital lobe emphysema, pulmonary sequestration and bronchogenic cyst
