Presentation

Pain 1 year after motor vehicle accident.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Female
x-ray

There is fusion of the bodies and posterior elements at the level of C2/3. A hypoplastic right first rib is seen and there is spina bifida occulta at S1. A lumbar scoliosis is also seen.

Case Discussion

The patient attended 1 year after a motor vehicle accident complaining of neck and back pain. No obvious traumatic findings but multiple spinal congenital anomalies were noted.

Klippel-Feil syndrome should be considered in light of the multiple anomalies noted. This condition is thought to occur in about 1 in 40,000 with a slight preference for females.
