Contained iatrogenic bladder perforation

Case contributed by Dr Roberto Schubert

Persistent pain in the left lower abdomen for 5 days after bladder biopsy by transurethral resection.

Patient Data

Age: 45
Gender: Male

Thickening of the left caudal rectus abdominis muscle. Left antero-lateral paravesical, extraperitoneal density (probably haemorrhage) with a few tiny air bubbles. However, there is no contrast extravasation from the bladder.

Case Discussion

This finding would have been impossible to detect with a mere x-ray cystography.
