Known case of craniosynostosis, sent by the ophthalmologist to assess optic canal narrowing. Clinically patient has right optic atrophy.
Patient Data
Reduced coronal diameter of frontal bones secondary to early fusion of coronal suture. Tight stenosis of bilateral optic canals. Gyral imprinting seen in the inner table of all calvarial bones suggestive of chronic raised intracranial pressure.
Case Discussion
Craniosynostosis refers to the abnormal early fusion or closure of cranial vault sutures resulting in varying deformed skull shapes. The early fusion results in restricted space for brain growth in the first two years. This results in the brain parenchyma exerting pressure on the inner table of skull leaving forever evidence in the form of a copper beaten appearance.
