Post-traumatic elbow pain and swelling

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Male

A comminuted fracture of the coronoid process involves the coronoid base with disruption of more than 50% of the coronoid body (type III O'Driscoll classification). The fracture is seen extending to the ulnar shaft with a lifted bony segment

No joint dislocation

Large elbow joint effusion

Periarticular soft tissue edema

Case Discussion

The O'Driscoll classification system distinguishes coronoid process fractures of the ulna into three types, and this classification system is useful when assessing further treatment options
