Corpus callosal dysgenesis and periventricular heterotopia

Case contributed by Assoc Prof Frank Gaillard

Long history of epilepsy.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years

There is agenesis of the corpus callosum with a dilated and high riding 3rd ventricle, colpocephaly and Probst bundles. There is heterotopic grey matter around the frontal horn of the left lateral ventricle, resulting in an abnormal contour of the frontal horn left lateral ventricle. The cerebral hemispheres are otherwise unremarkable. The hippocampi appear normal.

Developmental venous anomaly in the posterior aspect of the right cerebellum. The posterior fossa structures are otherwise normal.

Case Discussion

Typical appearances of agenesis of the corpus callosum and periventricular heterotopia. In congenital malformations it is critical to carefully look for additional abnormalities as often multiple such findings are present.
