Cortical dysplasia

Case contributed by Dr Maxime St-Amant

Patient Data

Age: 5 years
Gender: Male

MRI was performed 24 hours after the first episode of epilepsy.

There is a subtle focal thickening of the inferior right frontal cortex with blurring of the grey white matter junction, compatible with focal cortical dysplasia. This thickening is mostly isointense to the cortex in all ponderation (slightly hyperintense on T2 though). The rest of the exam is within normal limits.

Case Discussion

The diagnosis was pathologically proven.
