Adamantinomatous craniopharyngioma

Case contributed by Hani Makky Al Salam
Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Dizziness and episodes of loss of consciousness

Patient Data

Age: 2 years
Gender: Female

CT brain

ct

Large multicystic mass centered in the suprasellar region and extending into the right middle cranial fossa. It has multiple foci of calcification.

MRI brain

mri

MRI confirms the multicystic nature of the mass, but also demonstrates that the fluid is intermediate T1 signal and does not attenuate on FLAIR. Thin irregular contrast enhancement is also present.

MRS has been performed over a mixed solid/cystic area. As such it does not demonstrate the characteristic flat trace with dominant lipid peak.

Case Discussion

Features are consistent with an adamantinomatous craniopharyngioma, which was proven histologically at resection.
