Craniophyaryngioma (adamantinomatous)

Case contributed by A.Prof Frank Gaillard

CT brain

Modality: CT

Non-contrast CT in a child demonstrates a predominantly cystic suprasellar mass with peripheral calcification.

MRI brain

Modality: MRI

MRI confirms the cystic nature of the mass with low T1 and high T2 central fluid component. Thin peripheral enhancement is present but no solid component. The mass extends directly superiorly and displaces the optic chiasm, elevating the floor of the third ventricle. Inferiorly it expands the fossa and presses the pituitary inferiorly. An incidental cavum septum pellucidum is noted.

Case Discussion

This case demonstrates typical appearances of a histology confirmed adamantinomatous craniopharyngioma.
