Crossed fused renal ectopia

Case contributed by Mohammad Taghi Niknejad
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Work up for flank pain.

Patient Data

Age: 10 years
Gender: Male
Fluoroscopy

Intravenous urography (IVU) demonstrates the absence of left renal shadow in the left renal bed on the plain x-ray. On the post contrast images, the left kidney has crossed the midline and lies on the right side, inferomedial to the right kidney. Serial images show that both kidneys have their respective pelvicalyceal systems, with normal openings of both ureters into the urinary bladder.

Case Discussion

Features on IVU are consistent with crossed fused renal ectopia.
