Presentation
Barking cough, with stridor, fever and irritability.
Patient Data



There is hypopharyngeal distension, with subglottic tracheal narrowing.
There is adenoidal hypertrophy, accentuated due to the rotated position at the time of exposure.



There is a smooth narrowing of the subglottic airway (steeple sign).
There is right-sided tracheal bowing in keeping with expiration at the time of exposure.
Case Discussion
An example of croup / acute laryngotracheobronchitis (LTB) during a recent bout of a community outbreak of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).
It is always important to exclude aspirated foreign bodies in patients presenting with stridor.
