Cubital tunnel syndrome

Presentation

Chronic elbow pain and questionable fracture in childhood. Now weakness and impaired sensation in 4th and 5th digits.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Female
x-ray

Osteophyte formation, joint space reduction and ossified bodies (changes of degenerative disease) are seen.

ultrasound
  • ulnar nerve compression with a proximal edematous hypoechoic nerve segment as well as normal diameter and echo pattern distal to the site of compression
  • the cross-sectional area of nerve is 1.2 and 0.7 mm proximal to and at the site of  compression
  • on the asymptomatic side, the ulnar nerve displays a normal appearance

Case Discussion

The cubital tunnel syndrome is a type of ulnar nerve compression neuropathy that occurs from pathological compression of the ulnar nerve at the cubital tunnel.
