Presentation

History of pain and swelling at the left foot since 6 hours after a twisted ankle while walking, on examination: swelling hotness and tenderness mainly over the base of the dorsal side of the left foot.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

X-ray both frontal and oblique views show avulsed fracture at the lateral aspect of the left cuboid bone.

Case Discussion

Non-displaced fractures such as avulsion fractures (like this case) and stress fractures are treated with conservative methods of treatment while complex injuries involving complex fractures with significant displacement and intra-articular involvement require anatomic reduction and external or internal osteosynthesis.
