Curled toes

Presentation

Congenital abnormality involving some of the toes.

Patient Data

Age: 7-year-old
Gender: Female

Feet radiographs

Modality: X-ray

The third and fourth toes distal phalanxes are abnormally flexed in a plantar and medial direction (curly toes), bilaterally. No other abnormalities seen. 

Case Discussion

Congenital curled toes are usually asymptomatic abnormalities characterised by flexion and varus deformity of the interphalangeal joints of the most lateral toes (third, fourh, and fifth). They are usually bilateral and caused by contracture of the flexor digitorium tendons.
